Frequently Asked Questions
These are smaller-scale, local solar projects that generate clean, affordable electricity that’s distributed to the local grid. As the landowner host, you’ll receive a guaranteed passive lease income for 20+ years, and the electricity is shared with local community subscribers once the projects is operational. These projects enable states to reach growing energy needs and provide consumers and businesses a way to gain access to affordable, clean energy locally.
GridEdge reviews each site on an individual basis. There are different lease rates for different regions and site types. In general, we have found our lease rates to be higher than most agriculture revenue. Please contact us and our team will review your unique site.
Yes, during the development period while we permit and study the land, you may continue farming or using your land. Once construction starts and the system is operational, you will no longer be able to use the land inside the fence line (lease boundary). During the operations period, you can use anything outside of the lease boundary.
It is GridEdge's responsibility to maintain everything within the lease boundary. This includes solar equipment, access driveway, vegetation, and fencing. The landowner does not need to maintain any aspect of the leased area. Our scheduled operations & maintenance team will take care of routine maintenance.
GridEdge will cover the incremental property tax increase that is the result of the solar project being placed at the property.
There are two important timelines in a Lease:
1. Development/Option Period: This is a 2-5 year timeline when our company completes all engineering, approvals, construction, and you receive annual option payments
2. Operational Period: This is when you receive the full $/acre rental payments for the 20-40 year term.
GridEdge Energy will cover the cost and manage the entire development process. This includes engineering, utility interconnection studies, local municipal permitting, financing, and construction. During this time, the landowner is paid annual option payments.
At the end of the lease term, we will remove all equipment from the site. The modules will be recycled along with the steel, copper, and aluminum. The land will be restored within 6-9 months of the lease period ending. All above and below ground solar facility equipment will be removed
